Flying with ropes???

aha!!!!!!
this here is what we call it as flying fox where a person descends from higher to lower ground by gliding on a rope with the help of a system..
Apparently my picture was not taken when i was gliding down so i borrowed my friend's picture and there she is with a big smile thanking god that she reaches the end of the line...sorry Wani...

The equipment involve in this activity is almost the same as the equipment used is abseling activity where you have the carabena, figure of eight, the kernmentle ropes and so on..but there are also other equipmant which the flying fox activity requires such as the pulley if i am not mistaken...the pulley, carabena, figure of eight and sling are connected together to form a system which is used to glide a person on the ropes of the flying fox..

The Activity...

In order to start the activity, we need to tie the kernmentle static rope to an anchor which is strong enough at two ends to make a main line and a safety line..the main line is where the person decending will be attached to and the safety line is the support to the particular person in case trouble occurs at the main line..we use the clove hitch knot to hold the safety line and a double clove hitch knot to hold the main line at the upper anchor and a prussic rope with a prussic knot to hold the main line at the lower main anchor which is then supported by the kernmentle static rope at a secondary anchor....as for the safety line at the lower anchor, we use the butterfly knot and the clove hitch to hold the safety line in tact...to join together the prussic rope with the kernmentle rope at the main line was a really difficult job,a system which is roughly called the 'z system' is needed to make sure both ropes are tightly secured and tensed by using a pulley arranged in a zig zag position...we were lucky that abg muz was there that day to help us and thus the activity was a success...in this activity, there is a despatcher and a stopper/braker...the despatcher is of course the person in charge on releasing the person descending and the braker is the person responsible in stopping the descending person from hitting the anchor at the lower end of the line...well, thats all for this Flying Fox activity from me...cant wait to tell the management games activity next week to you guys/girls out there..so stay tuned...hehe..

Frustrating...

hrm....

does anybody know where 2 get xtra large equipment???

last thursday, i had my abseiling clas..problem is, we did 2 types of abseiling..the normal abseiling and the australian style abseiling which i did'nt get the chance to experience it because the harness provided were to small for me... is there any other option which will enable me 2 join this activity again?? help...help...

Seriously...

Assalamualaikum...

helllo everybody!!!

because of insufficient equipment, it seems that i cant continue describing my experience in my outdoor class...so, just to fill up my blog, here i would like to discuss a lil bit about the problem that i am facing regarding my knee..for those who do not know, i have torn my Anterior Cruciate Ligament aka (ACL) and going for a major ACL reconstruction surgery insyaAllah this november..problem is, my knee is already killing me and i have been suffering pain at the medial side of my knee plus frequent stability problems of the particular knee for quite some time already..althou the problem is like what i have mentiond earlier, it was'nt like this the first place..it was just fine even after i came back from my final camp and even before the fasting month..im not trying to say that all the fasting is causing this..there is another explanation and after a while, i found out that i wasnt careful about knee..sometimes when i get excited, i would run up the stairs at my fac or even on the way to my room which eventuly what i think is the cause of my knee problem..so, for everyone who has a knee problem/injuries/pain,i suggest u take good care of it and consult experts asap..whats the point of having a leg if you cant use it propperly right??? do take this seriously and you just might save your knee..tadaaaa....

The Beginning

hello...hello...

hrm....how should i start????
well, lets just start from when i was chosen as the Head of the Equipment Biro..things were crazy then...i've been running around like a mad man trying to get the job done...and apparently there was this on time where i did loose my temper and started to act a little bit rude towards the facilitators which still hunts me today...nah...just joking...what past is past OK???..but to tell you the truth, i was'nt really the type off person that blows up easily...i dont know what had gotten into me but all i know is that, it was cause by the stress of not delegating tasks which i am now trying to change it in a more positive way..Our first tasks in this final camp was of course to survey the camp site which i manage to tagged along with my friends at the Taman Pertanian Bukit Cahaya Sri Alam aka Bukit Cerakah and the picture above is the place mention...well of course we had other things to do besides surveying the camp site..at my end, i needed to make sure that all the equipment for this camping trip are ready to be used and enough to accommodate everybody at the camp including the facilitators and even the VIP..and thank God with the help of my friends, i manager to gather and borrow not just the exact amount of equipment but a little extra of it which eventually made it a burden to us coz we needed to carry extra loads of equipment...GREAT JOB PAK LONG!!!??? Yeah Right.....

FIRST CAMP

Yeah.....

Although this was a very short camp,it was also a very meaningful one to me..i did learn a lot in this camp and thats what makes it special...coz i did'nt really expect i could learn a lot in such a limited amount of time..it was rough at the very beginning but as time flows to the end things changed and God only knows what made it easier for me....this is the picture taken during the camp on all the participant involve in this camp....

First Aid

ahaaa....

If u think that i'm in a bicycle shop than think again....believe it or not, this was the outdoor recreation store which is now demolish to bring up a hall of i do no know what....enough with the small talk and lets continue shall we...this is my first aid class and what i am holding there is a triangular bandage..in this class, en Hisyam thought us on how to use the triangular bandage..he also thought us a bit on the content and functions of the first aid kit..we did a lot of patient-doctor look alike activity where we were paired and one of us has to act like we were really injured and the other person needs to attend to that person and make the respective measure..it was really2 fun and meaningful to me because you will never know maybe some day when such a day comes, i wont panic and chicken out...but since the class was at the begging of the semester, i tend to forget a lot...looks like i need to study more on this which is quite difficult....arggghhhhh!!!!
hehehe...

Camp Craft

okkkey...

This is a picture taken during our practical camp craft class...This is what we call as the main camp...although there were problems with it, we were all satisfied coz we successfully brought up the main camp with the Help of abg Shawn and a few other members of PERLU..We were also corrected on all the errors that we did in bringing up this main camp such as the loose knotting of the kernmantle static rope, the positioning of the fly sheet, the rules to enter the main camp, and a few other stuff which i cant remember.
At a different location, we have already prepared a few dome type tent which will be used as our shelter camp later at the first and the final camp..thats all about the camp craft activity..lets continue with the first aid class shall we....

Knoting Clas...

My class started with the introduction on outdoor recreation on 7th July 2008 which has got nothing to do with this picture...but, on the second week, this was the knotting class which took place at bk 4 and in this class, En Hisyam with the help of a few members of PERLU thought us a few but useful knots which were the reef knot, clove hitch, sheet band and double sheet band, bowline, figure of eight single and double loop, fisherman knot single and double loop, the butterfly knot and the half hitch...at first i thought all this knots were just useless but that wasn't the case after i went for my first and final camp...mostly all the knots that we learn in this class appears to be useful and thank God i did some revision on those knots and manage to survive at during the first and final camp...

A thousand Appologies...

Since i've just made my blog, there are tons and tons of activities b4 this which i am not able to tell in my blog...but, i will make up to that by adding what i have learn since i started this outdoor recreation clas ok...for that, my appologies to En Hisham and to who ever that feels offended by my act....

Updating The Blog

you see....i manage to upload a picture already..hahahaha..this is all thanks to Omar, Aidid and Zul..and 4 your infomation, this was the picture taken during my abseiling activity yesterday..hrm.....since i know a lil bit about this blog, i think i can continue updating it regularly...so do add me n help me ok...

Learning is fun.

Today, during my outdoor n recreation class,we did absailing activity..man!!!!! it was really2 fun..i learn a lot of things today and my thanks for abg Shawn and En.Hisham for the knowledge n guidance also my thanks to a few members of the PERLU which i consulted the night b4 the activity...at first, my clas were divided into three small groups then only the activity started..the first move was of course finding the suitable spot to do this activity then the knoting part which i thought was quite difficult turned out to b suprisingly simple coz there were no complicated knots involve..eventuly the only knots that were involve was the clove hitch which is used to tie the main line and the safety line of the absailing rope, the prussik knot that was tied using a sling and a figure of 8 that act as a safety line 2....if i were to start from the very beginning of this activity,i dont think anyboby would want to read this so my advice is, join this activity when you have the chance ok...trust me you wont regret it....althou we conducted the whole activity, most of it were eventuly set up by abg Shawn..it was quite embarasing but what the heck,we are there to learn right...but out of the whole activity, everybody in my group did contributed in making this activity successful. for that, my thanks to them 2...thats it for today....im out!!!!!
